One of the catalysts for this site has been the recent proposals to build thousands of houses to the south of Newark as a result of an application by Newark and Sherwood District Council for the town to be granted "Growth Point Status".
This designation will mean that government money can be used for new services in the area but only on condition that large new housing estates are built, initially containing some 6,000 houses but with the council envisaging at least twice that number within the next 15 years. This will have the effect of doubling the size of the population and we believe this is unsustainable and will destroy the character of Newark as a market town.
Included here are the documents we have so far been able to obtain relating to these plans. Initially we are presenting the documents relating to NSDC’s application but we will also shortly include the documents from the East Midlands Regional Authority, an unelected body who have huge influence of many aspects of our lives.
We hope these documents will be of use in informing people of the radical plans the politicians have for the future of our town.
